Have a questions for law enforcement? Get it answered here.

Is there anything you have ever wanted to know from the police department? Well, this is your chance to ask. We will be teaming up with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies from around the county to answer your questions.

Whether you have a question about certain laws and how they might affect you, your family or friends or how to stay safe in certain situations, we want you to ask them. Every week we will run one question and answer. To submit a question, email jennifer.squires@patch.com.

Question:

What is the legal window tint for a car? Does it vary by make and model?

Answer:

California Vehicle Code 26708(d) exemptions...  "clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows..."

This does not vary by make and model.

I also get a lot of inquiries regarding a doctor's prescription for 'window tint'.  This is fine, although the California Vehicle Code requires that the covering be readily removable (meaning a pull down shade or something temporary).

I have a small question, generally we are authorized for window tinting up to 10 percent. but the police cab also be tinted and I don't think so that the darkish is only 10 percent. So my question is why they are getting this priviledge

I was looking for photograde film. My sister hit a deer on the road out to Freedom at night. The chp loaded it into his trunk then wrote her a tint ticket. The deer leapt into the road.
