Boy, 14, Arrested for Pajaro Gang Shooting

Police work with Monterey County sheriff's deputies after rival gangs shoot at each other across the Pajaro River.

Gangsters in Pajaro had their guns blazing Friday evening.

Two gang shootings in an hour had and Monterey County Sheriff's deputies scrambling to locate the assailants and keep a lid on the violence that sent a Watsonville man to the hospital.

A Watsonville police officer arrested one boy, a 14-year-old Watsonville resident, about an hour after the second shooting, police reported.

The violence erupted around 5:30 p.m. when gang members on Gonda Road in Pajaro, in North Monterey County, fired shots across the Pajaro River at rival Watsonville gang members, police said.

Then, around 6:30 p.m., a man was shot at 19 Fremont St. in Pajaro. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Watsonville police master officer Eddie Santana and officer Skip Prigge responded to Pajaro to help sheriff's deputies with the investigation. Prigge knew the suspected shooter, so Watsonville officers formed a team to go search for the boy, according to police.

The teen was arrested within the hour on East Lake Avenue on suspicion of attempted murder. Police said he was positively identified as the shooter. The boy was turned over to Monterey County authorities.

Watsonville police continue to investigate the earlier shooting across the river, which did not injure anyone.

It wasn't clear if the gun violence was related to , leaving one man dead and two teens badly hurt.
