Bullets Narrowly Miss Small Children

Two shootings were reported within minutes of one another Thursday night.

Two children, ages 4 and 5, were nearly hit by gunfire when their Holly Drive home was shot up Thursday night, Watsonville police reported.

However, no one was hurt.

Police were investigating a possible shooting near Freedom Boulevard and Miles Lane around 11 p.m. when the call came in that a home had been shot on the 100 block of Holly Drive, about two miles east.

The gunman unloaded at least 12 rounds on the home. Several people were inside the house at the time, including the two young children asleep on the top bunk in a front bedroom. Police said three bullets passed within inches of the children, including one that lodged in a balled-up sweatshirt in the corner of the top bunk.

Officers interviewed neighbors and collected evidence at the scene, but haven't made any arrests. No suspect information was released.
