Elderly Woman Thwarts Burglars

The men were arrested after crashing their stolen car and running into a nursery to hide.

Two burglars who allegedly stole from an elderly Corralitos woman Thursday morning were arrested later in the day by sheriff's deputies, authorities reported.

Manual George Terra, 21, of Sacramento and Robert Dee Davis, 27, of Salinas, were jailed following the burglary, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Around 10:12 a.m., a 70-year-old Corralitos woman called 911 to report two men were ransacking her garage on the 200 block of Allan Lane and taking items, according to Sgt. Steve Carney. She gave emergency dispatchers a description of the vehicle and deputies out on patrol started searching for the burglars.

Within 40 minutes, a deputy found the vehicle—which had been reported stolen from Salinas—near Casserly and Webb roads, and tried to pull it over. Instead, there was a short chase into a nursery off Casserly Road and the stolen car crashed into two parked vehicles, according to Carney.

Both suspects fled on foot from the vehicle, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Terra was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. Davis, the driver, was found hiding in a nearby creek and arrested. Deputies recovered the stolen property from the suspects' vehicle, a blue mid 90s Honda two-door sedan with a black primer front end. Additional property believed to be stolen from other burglaries was found in the vehicle as well.

Both suspects were being interviewed by Sheriff’s Office investigators Thursday afternoon. It does not appear as if any additional suspects are outstanding and the Sheriff’s Office is taking investigative efforts to determine if the two suspects are responsible for the recent residential burglaries in Aptos. Investigators are asking for anyone who may have seen the suspects or has additional information to call Sheriff’s dispatch (831-471-1121) or Sheriff’s Investigations (831-454-2311).
