Bystander Nabs Fleeing Ex-con after Police Chase, Crash

Two people, including the suspect, were injured in the crash that ended the police chase.

Monterey County sheriff's deputies Friday arrested an at large parolee for having fake checks, drugs and drug paraphernalia after a car and foot chase in Watsonville, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies contacted Bobby Torio, 47, a transient, after attempting to use a fraudulent check at Las Lomas Market, at 182 Hall Road in Watsonville at about 10:55 a.m. Friday, officials said.

Torio fled, leading deputies in a car chase, according to sheriff's officials. The car chase ended after Torio crashed her car. Torio and another driver were injured in the crash. The crash also damaged roughly $1,000 to a tomato crop, officials said.

She attempted to run away after the crash, but was detained by a bystander, according to the sheriff's office.

Torio was found to be in possession of numerous fake checks, methamphetamine and a meth pipe, the sheriff's office said.

In addition, Torio was a parolee at large and had several felony warrants for her arrest.
