Car on Northbound Highway 1 Flips and Stops Traffic

UPDATE: Traffic was moving again at 6:16 p.m. ...Northbound Highway 1 was a parking lot after an injury accident at 5:25 p.m. Friday.

A northbound car hit the median on Highway 1 north of Soquel Avenue and flipped causing at least one injury and stopping traffic during the evening rush.

Fire and rescue crews were called at 5:25 p.m. and traffic did not move again until 6:15.

By the time the road was cleared, Google Maps showed a standstill as far back as Park Avenue. Because of highway construction, Southbound traffic on the highway is backed up to the fish hook.

Were you in this mess or did you witness it? Let us know in the comments.

I've been sitting in the traffic from this accident for almost 45 minutes barely moving.

Finally got off the highway after moving 5 feet in just as many minutes. It's a nightmare out there!

Had no idea there was an accident. We thought the backup was somehow related to the summer tourist trade and all of the great activities in the area during this time of year. We got off the freeway at the first possible moment and decided to take the long way home. Glad we did. Waiting for updates on this one, which was (again) very close to where we live.

It was painful. But I listened to Giants pregame on the radio for a while so I survived.
