Carjacker Pushes Woman to Ground, Steals Honda

A passenger in the car was dragged several feet as the carjacker sped away.

One woman was pushed to the ground and a second was dragged down the street when the black Honda Accord they intended to drive was stolen by a carjacker Wednesday night in Watsonville, the Sheriff's Office reported.

The theft happened around 10:40 p.m. when a 53-year-old woman was preparing to enter her stationary and running car on the 1300 block of Riverside Road in Watsonville when an unknown white man ran towards her and pushed her to the ground, according to sheriff's deputy Ryan Kennedy.

The carjacker got in the Honda and quickly drove away from the area, dragging a partially seated 32-year-old woman in the passenger seat  5 to 10 feet. She fell out of the fleeing vehicle, Kennedy said.

Monterey County sheriff's deputies spotted the car and tried to stop it, but the carjacker refused to stop. The chase eventually wound back into Santa Cruz County, where Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies and Watsonville police officers got involved.

The pursuit eventually was discontinued in the area of Buena Vista and Southbound Highway 1 in the interest of public safety due to the suspect’s erratic driving.

The black Honda Accord had a California license plate 6RCC227.

The suspect was described as an approximately 6 feet tall 200 pound white man with a medium build wearing a black sweatshirt and a red baseball hat with an unknown logo. He is wanted for carjacking, vehicle theft, and evading law enforcement.  If you have any information regarding this case, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (831) 471-1121.
