Copper Wire and Valuable Tools Stolen from Storage Yard

An Airport Boulevard storage yard was burglarized by a fence-cutting thief over the weekend.

A portable generator, a tool belt, two chain saws, a power drill and copper wire were all stolen from a fenced storage yard in Watsonville early Saturday.

At 7:39 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to 867 Airport Blvd. where a contractor doing utility line work for the county is storing its tools.

According to Deputy April Skalland, a person at the storage yard said that sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday, all of the goods had been stolen.

It was apparent at the scene that the thief cut through a chain link fence from a nearby dirt road to gain access to the storage complex, then stole the tools and wire from a truck, Skalland said.

The generator is valued at $1000, the tool belt at $900 and the chainsaws at $500 each. There was no available value for the drill or the copper wire, which is often sold at recycling centers.

There is no suspect information or valuable surveillance footage to identify the burglar, Skalland said.
