Crime Briefs: Accused Rapist Pleads Not Guilty

Also, memorial service held for teenage homicide victim; detectives still investigating the killing.

over the Fourth of July weekend pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to all charges.

Wayne Steven Maynor, 30, attacked the woman on Freedom Boulevard the morning of July 3.

Police said he held a knife to her neck and carjacked her. He allegedly forced her into her own car, tied her up and blindfolded her, then raped her, police reported.

After the attack, the rapist left the woman and took off in her car.

Police arrested Maynor on East Lake Avenue, not far from where the woman's car was found.

In court Thursday, Maynor appeared in yellow county jail-issued clothing with his hands and feet shackled. He answered "yes" to Judge Michael Barton's questions but otherwise didn't speak during his brief appearance.

Maynor's court-appointed attorney entered pleas of not guilty to all of the charges. Maynor will be back in court Aug. 18.

Sheriff's Lt. Fred Plageman said no suspects have been identified and no arrests made in what detectives have characterized as a gang-motivated slaying.

Duran was shot several times at close range on Manfre Road late Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We're investing time and resources in this case," said Plageman, who heads the investigation division at the Sheriff's Office.
