Crime Briefs: Fatal Crashes

A Watsonville woman survived fiery crash Monday in the East Bay killed a man.; a Watsonville man died in a separate collision last week.

A 20-year-old Watsonville woman was involved in a fatal three-car collision near Brentwood on Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision on Vasco Road south of Camino Diablo Road was reported at 1:48 p.m.

A 21-year-old Oakley resident was driving a 1999 Subaru Outback south on Vasco Road when he lost control and veered into the northbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He struck a 1998 Mercedes head-on, causing major injuries to the driver and passenger, both 67-year-old residents of San Ramon.

The Outback then swerved back into the southbound lanes and struck a third vehicle, a Pontiac Tans Am driven by a 20-year-old woman from Watsonville.

The Outback then burst into flames.

Antun Niksic, who had been driving the Mercedes, was killed in the
crash, and the female passenger was transported to John Muir Hospital with
major injuries.

The driver of the Outback suffered major injuries and was also
taken to the hospital.

Alcohol and drugs is not believed to be a factor in the collision, the CHP said.

Vasco Road was closed until shortly after 5 p.m. while CHP officers investigated.

An 18-year-old Watsonville man died in a car crash on Highway 152 near Watsonville Road in Santa Clara County, on Oct. 29, the Morgan Hill Times reported.

According to the newspaper's account, another 18-year-old from Watsonville was driving when the crash occurred. That teen was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and auto theft.
