Four Apartments Scorched; Ford Street Closed

Steer clear of Ford Street while the fire department fights the blaze.

Update 4:36 p.m.: Four apartments were badly damaged by the fire, but no one wsa injured. Crews are now cleaning up the scene. Roads remain closed and the Red Cross is at the incident site. 

Original Report: The Watsonville Fire Department responded to reports of black smoke coming from the Cabrillo Arms Apartments at 2:50 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Upon arriving, firefighters also saw the smoke billowing from the building and closed the area to fight the fire.

Watsonville Police sent out an alert asking that all traffic avoid the Ford Street Area. The intersection of Ford and Kilburn has been closed while the fire is being dealt with. 

It is unknown at this time how the fire started.
