Four People Ticketed for Buying Booze for Kids

A store clerk also was cited for selling alcohol to an underage customer, police said.

A crackdown on underage drinking in August resulted in seven citations, Watsonville police reported.

Four adults were cited for furnishing alcohol to minors; a store clerk got a ticket for selling alcohol to minors; and two minors were ticketed for being in possession of alcohol, police said.

The Police Department didn't divulge what business sold booze to teenagers.

The operation involved using minor decoys. It was done in partnership with the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control with an ABC grant.

The operations were made possible by a grant award to the Watsonville Police Department by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and are part of a larger project to reduce alcohol-related issues and crimes in the city. The project will continue through June of 2014 and includes preventative and educational programs and encourages community participation.
