Gang Shooting Injures One Friday Night

Police are looking for suspects from the incident, which occurred at the intersection of Sudden Street and East Lake Avenue.

Police are investigating a gang-motivated shooting that left one person injured Friday in Watsonville.

At about 7:35 p.m. Watsonville police and Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force officers received a report of a shooting near the intersection of Sudden Street and East Lake Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers made contact with witnesses who reported a shooting in a nearby parking lot. Witnesses said that two male suspects shot and wounded a male victim, according to police.

Both the suspects and the victim left the scene before police arrived.

About 20 minutes after receiving the reports of a shooting, officers were notified of a gunshot victim who was seeking medical attention at Watsonville Community Hospital, police said.

Police responded to the hospital and discovered that the adult male victim had sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. He was treated and later released from the hospital.

Based on the police investigation, officers determined that two male suspects approached and confronted the victim before shooting him and fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim was transported by private vehicle to the hospital, police said.

The shooting is being investigated as gang-motivated, according to police.
