Good Samaritan Stabbed During Bar Fight

No arrests were made in the late-night violence.

A Watsonville man trying to break up a bar fight late Saturday instead ended up badly hurt, Watsonville police reported.

The 31-year-old man was trying to stop two groups of men from fighting around 11:15 p.m. The brawl had started inside The Villager bar, then moved out to the courtyard area, police said.

That's when the 31-year-old tried to intervene but was stabbed in the back, police said.

Cops were called to the bar, in a shopping center on the 1000 block of East Lake Avenue. The men who had been fighting fled down Tuttle Avenue before officers arrived; no arrests have been made.

The injured man was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital, then flown to an out-of-county trauma center. Police said his injury wasn't life threatening.

I thought the WPD had a "satellite" office in that shopping center and that bar sees fights very often too.

They do. I wonder how often officers are in that office?

That place is a 'blight' on our town...needs to go!

This place definitely needs more security and police check-ins.

I go in to play Shuffleboard. I do not drink, but it is something to do in this town. We do not have much to do, no bowling, no pool, no shuffleboard, 1 movie theater.

The shooting of a young boy by a gang member at the bowling alley contributed to its closure, and repeated violence at or near the Villager by the gangs could lead to the closure of Watsonville's last true neighborhood bar. At this rate, eventually only the gangs will have a social life in Watsonville.

I'd like to have more info about this. I'm thinking of "bundling" my telephone land line,Read More internet, and HGTV with Charter, BUT if they practice censorhsip, I might reconsider. Any more info would be appreciated...what websites are being blocked?
Butch Cole June 16, 2013 at 01:32 am
I'd like more information also..I have Charter now and can't remember getting notification that theyRead More are blocking sites.
Earl Pickles June 16, 2013 at 10:40 pm
Doubtful that notification would be given. Sites that are most troublesome for Charter are thoseRead More available for downloading copyrighted material. This is not to say that Charter is a bad ISP for it is a relative fast, moderately priced, reliable service in this area. I would suggest however that you do not lease the required equipment from them but purchase your own. If you are interested in finding out more about Charter and other ISPs blocking sites, information is available on the Internet.

From emergency dispatchers: the white four-door sedan had flames coming from the engine compartment.Read More It was on the off-ramp from southbound Highway 1 near Rampart. The car was fully engulfed and the flames spread into the surrounding vegetation a bit, but firefighters only needed a couple of minutes to knock down the fire.
