Gunfire Strikes Freedom Blvd. Business, Passing Car

Young men in one car opened fire on another vehicle during rush hour; no one was hurt.

A brazen daytime shooting left a Freedom Boulevard business and a passing car sprayed with gunfire Monday afternoon in Watsonville, but no one was injured, Watsonville police reported.

The violence broke out at 5 p.m. when young men in a silver Honda fired several shots at people in a red Honda at Freedom Boulevard near Richardson Avenue, according to police.

At least one bullet struck a nearby business, which was open and had employees inside. A passing car also was hit with the gunfire. No bystanders were hurt, police said.

The young men in the silver Honda fled north on Freedom; those in the red Honda drove south on Freedom. Officers searched unsuccessfully for both vehicles. No arrests were made.

Late Monday, no injuries had been reported, police said.

There has been in Watsonville in July. Police attribute the gun violence to gang activity. No one has been injured.
