Head-On Crash Injures Three on Carlton Road

The cause of the Monday morning crash is still under investigation.

Three people went to area hospitals Monday morning after a Watsonville woman turned her sport utility vehicle into the path of a minivan on Carlton Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Ana Hernandez, 27, was driving a blue Chevy Tahoe eastbound on Carlton around 6:45 a.m. when she made a left turn onto Thompson Road directly ahead of a maroon Ford Windstar, according to the CHP.

The Windstar, 22-year-old Julio Velazquez of Salinas, collided head-on with the SUV, the CHP reported.

Two Salinas men, ages 19 and 21, riding in the van were hurt. They were taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for treatment. Hernandez was flown by helicopter to San Jose Valley Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. Two passengers in the Ford Windstar, Lechuga and Ramos, were transported.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation but officers don't believe DUI was a factor, the CHP reported.
