Local Boxer Allegedly Knocks out Neighbor

Juan Pablo Herrera is accused of repeatedly punching his neighbor Thursday.

Watsonville police arrested Juan Pablo Herrera on Thursday after he allegedly brutally attacked his neighbor.

At 12:34 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Union Street to reports of an assault, Sgt. Saul Gonzalez told Watsonville Patch.

The victim of the beating reported that earlier he had come out of his house to find Herrera, 20, kicking his car. When the victim confronted Herrera, he said he was punched six to eight times and lost consciousness.

Gonzalez said that Herrera has a boxing background of some sort, and has multiple photos of himself with boxing medals on his Facebook page.

There had been previous tension between the victim and Herrera, but Gonzalez said it is unclear exactly the details of the conflict.

The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Herrera was arrested on felony assault and battery charges and is being held on $25,000 bail.
