Man Stabbed, Police Dog Tracks Suspect

The victim's roommate, who was hiding in a neighbor's backyard, was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Two Carr Street roommates got into an argument late Friday and the disagreement escalated to violence, Watsonville Police reported.

One man was stabbed in the chest, a non life-threatening injury, while the other was tracked down by a police dog and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, according to police

Cesar Bautista, 39, allegedly slashed his roommate, whose name and age were not released, in the chest with a knife then fled the home. The other man suffered a 2-inch cut, police said.

Officers were called to the home around 10:16 p.m.

The man who had been cut refused medical help but gave officers the name of his roommate and alleged attacker, as well as his description, police said.

was called into to search for Bautista. The canine found him hiding in the backyard of a nearby home and he was arrested.

Police said they don't believe the crime was gang related.
