Marijuana Grow Uprooted in Royal Oaks

Deputies found pounds of pot, hundreds of plants in North Monterey County home.

A 34-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after sheriff's deputies discovered nearly 200 marijuana plants and more than 20 pounds of the processed drug in a home in unincorporated Watsonville, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

A search warrant was served at 9:50 a.m. at the home of Nam Thanh Truong in the 13100 block of Heritage Circle, on suspicion that the occupants were cultivating an indoor marijuana grow, according to sheriff's officials.

The search revealed 190 growing marijuana plants and 22.5 pounds of processed marijuana in the home.

Truong was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana; possession of concentrated cannabis and marijuana for sales; and theft of utilities, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's officials said electricity was being stolen through a bypassed PG&E meter.
