Masked Man With Handgun Robs Watsonville Gas Station

Police are trying to identify an armed, masked man who robbed a gas station in Watsonville on Tuesday morning.

At about 5:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the Shell station at 18 Freedom Blvd. in response to a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who said that a man had walked into the gas station store and displayed what appeared to be a handgun, according to police. He threatened to open fire if the clerk did not give him cash from the register, police said.

The clerk complied, and the suspect then fled west on Carey Avenue. A second suspect, who may have been acting as a lookout, appeared to join the suspect as he ran away, police said.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the robber. He described as a dark-skinned Hispanic man about 24 years of age. He stands about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 200 pounds. He was wearing gray mask with the eyes cut out, a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans, police said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to contact Watsonville police at (831) 768-3352 or may do so anonymously at (831) 728-3544.
