Mentally Ill Man Missing Again

Gabriel Lorette-Smith was last seen in Watsonville on April 13.

A man known to frequent state parks in Santa Cruz County has gone missing for the second time in under a month.

Gabriel Lorette-Smith, a 22-year-old San Jose State student, was last seen at 135 Landis St. in Watsonville on April 13. According to police, Lorette-Smith suffers from mental illness.

It is believed he took camping gear with him, and he often frequents Henry Cowell State Park and the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park — regardless of regulations against camping.

Lorette-Smith is not considered a danger to others, but police across the county are putting out feelers in the interest of his wellbeing. 

He last went missing on March 18 and was found by March 20, when he called his family from Ben Lomond.

Lorette-Smith is 5'10", 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. If you see him, contact the Watsonville Police Department at 831-471-1151.
