Million Dollar Gilroy Fugitive Caught

Breanna Salgado and Karina Hernandez were arrested on Tuesday, but another woman fled the scene on foot.

One of Gilroy's most wanted is off the street Tuesday afternoon along with another woman, but police are still searching for a third person who ran from the scene of the same arrest.

According to Gilroy Police, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a code violation on Highway 101 and Leavesley Road at 12:21 a.m. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, it sped away, but a short time later the driver lost control and came to a stop.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Breanna Salgado, was arrested on evading charges. But Salgado's rap sheet extends far beyond Monday's incident. She was arrested in the Gilroy Police Department's Operation Royal Flush in Dec., 2011, which Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said was an effort "targeting Brown Pride Kings," a violent street gang in Gilroy.

Espinoza suspected that Salgado failed to appear in court after that arrest, which along with Monday's arrest and prior drug charges, has brought her bail up to $1 million.

Salgado's passenger, Karina Hernandez, 19, gave the arresting officer a fake name on Monday, and was arrested for a warrant for probation violation.

A second passenger, however, fled the scene on foot and was not apprehended.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Gilroy Police Department at 408-846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463.
