Moto GP Fan Gets In High-Speed Chase

The Pacifica man crashed on the bridge heading into Watsonville.

A motorcycle racing fan from Pacifica led Monterey County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed pursuit on Saturday night that ended when his bike clipped another vehicle on the Pajaro River Bridge and he was ejected, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office reported.

Ryan Preece Doleschal, 30, had just come from the Moto GP at Laguna Seca Raceway and was doing wheelies on Salinas Road, south of Pajaro, just before 8 p.m., according to deputies.

Deputies tried to stop Doleschal, but instead he sped up. The chase hit over 100 mph north through Pajaro and headed across the bridge into Watsonville. On the bridge, Doleschal's 2001 black and white Harley Davidson hit the back end of a sport utility vehicle and lost control. The motorcycle struck a curb, crashed onto its side and slid about 200 feed down the sidewalk, deputies reported.

Doleschal fell off the bike and slid about 100 feet before he hit a guardrail. He suffered broken clavicle and road rash, according to the Sheriff's Office. No one else was hurt.

Deputies said Doleschal didn't have a reason for running. Doleschal, an arborist, will be arrested for felony evading and misdemeanor reckless driving when he is released from Watsonville Community Hospital, deputies reported.
