One Killed, One Injured in Shooting at Las Lomas Party

A Watsonville man died in the violence; no arrests were made.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in the community of Las Lomas that left one man dead and another injured late
Saturday night.

Deputies and firefighters responded to a report of a shooting at a party at 5 Gregory Rd. just before midnight, according to the sheriff's office.

Arturo Mendoza, 24, of Watsonville, was found wounded and lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andres Rocha, 18, of Bakersfield, had been shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital in Watsonville and is expected to survive, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators believe the two men were confronted at the party and shot by unknown subjects.

No arrests were made.
