Plane Crashes Near Airport; Second Time in a Week

No one was hurt in the Saturday afternoon aviation accident.

A small plane went down near Watsonville Municipal Airport, the second time in a week that there's been an aircraft accident in the area, authorities reported. 

The plane carrying an instructor and a student went down around 1:10 p.m. in a field near Larkin Valley Road and Highway 1, according to emergency responders.

Accordign to KION Central Coast News, two people onboard walked away from the accident uninjured. The TV station also reported that the plane lost power shortly after takeoff and went down.

After the plane ascended off the run-way, the engine died, according to Watsonville Police Srgt. Eric Taylor. The plane made it to the other side of the freeway, but clipped the power line while it while it went down. 

Sunday, . The pilot had already dropped off skydivers when a power surge disrupted the plane's engine and the aircraft went down.

The FAA will investigate both crashes, according to Taylor.
