Police: Watsonville Man Arrested With Stolen Gun After Brief Pursuit

Reported by Bay City News:

Police in Watsonville arrested a man after a brief foot pursuit Thursday evening.

At about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, an officer spotted what he believed to be a stolen car in the area of Freedom Boulevard and Davis Avenue.

The officer attempted to make contact with the driver, 29-year-old Watsonville resident Luis Miguel Arredondo, after he pulled into a parking lot and parked, police said.

However, Arredondo fled on foot and officers gave chase. During the pursuit, Arredondo tossed a loaded .45-caliber handgun into the drive-thru lane of a Jack in the Box restaurant, according to police.

Shortly afterward, officers were able to apprehend Arredondo.

While the car was not stolen, an investigation determined that the gun was reported stolen out of Santa Cruz in 1996, police said.

Arredondo was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm in public, possession of a loaded firearm and resisting arrest.
