Police Blotter: Teens Caught Smoking Pot

A gunman fired shots at a house with four young children inside late Saturday in rural Watsonville, a shooting that investigators have classified as gang-related, accoridng to sheriff's deputy April Skalland.

The drive-by shooting happened around 10:16 p.m. on the 200 block of Hathaway Drive, off Green Valley Road. The couple and their four children, all younger than 10, were home when they heard heard loud bangs but weren't sure what they were, Skalland said.

Then the mom noticed a bullet hole in the front door. She waited a few minutes, then went outside but didn't see anyone, Skalland said. The family and deputies later found three more bullet holes, all in cars parked in front of the home.

No one was hurt.

Investigators suspect the shooting could have a gang connection and forwarded the case to the county's Gang Task Force.

Watsonville Police Log, Monday, May 7

4:58 p.m.—Four teens were in an alley off Orchard Street smoking opt. Two—a brother and sister—were not cooperative with officers and were arrested. They were later released to their parents.

5:57 p.m.—A 20-year-old man was ticketed for a misdemeanor warrant on California Street at Monte Vista.

6:21 p.m.—A 25-year-old man was arrested for violating his probation. He was picked up on the 500 block of Main Street.

7:24 p.m.—Police handled a resisting arrest incident on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard.

7:27 p.m.—Thieves stole a marble patio table and two chairs from a front yard on the 100 block of Altamont Drive. The theft happened sometime in the past day.

8:16 p.m.—A thief cut the cable chain lock off a bike and stole it from the 1000 block of East Lake Avenue while the bike owner was in The Villager bar.

10:50 p.m. A 22-year-old man was arrested for assault after allegedly attacking his 55-year-old father with a broom on the 100 block of Blanca Lane.

10:56 p.m.—A man was arrested for trespassing in an abandoned home on the 200 block of East Beach Street after someone called 911 to report hearing sounds coming from the house.
