Police Blotter: Aromas Man Arrested for Abusing Stepson

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watsonville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 5-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and his stepfather, a 28-year-old Aromas man, has been arrested for allegedly abusing the boy, Monterey County sheriff's officials said.

The stepfather, Armando Saldana, was arrested in the 300 block of Blohm Avenue, Aromas, in unincorporated Monterey County, on Monday. He was taken to Monterey County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of battery causing great bodily injury, child endangerment and parole violation, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The child suffered a broken arm and a laceration to his pancreas and remains hospitalized, sheriff's officials said.

Watsonville Police Log, Monday, Aug. 15

12:18 a.m.—An armed robber held up a person on Ohlone Parkway at Loma Vista Drive, shoving a black handgun at the person and demanding all of the person's belongings. The armed robber ran west on Loma Vista Drive after the holdup. Police canvassed the area but didn't make an arrest.

8 a.m.—Police were called to a tenant argument on the 100 block of West Beach Street and Grant McFarland, 57, was cited for two outstanding warrants. Officers were dispatched back to the neighborhood just before noon and arrested McFarland on suspcion of battery and a parole violation.

9:53 a.m.—Abraham Sanchez, 21, was arrested for a felony warrant on Main Street at South Green Valley Road.

9:56 a.m.—Ariel Cruz Ramirez was arrested for a felony warrant on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard.

11:13 a.m.—A 15-year-old boy was arrested for assualting a family member on the 300 block of Clifford Avenue and damaging property inside the house.

12:16 p.m.—Laura Harper, 65, allegedly shoplifted from Kmart and was ticketed.

5:33 p.m.—A teenage girl hit a 19-year-old woman several times on Main Street and Green Valley Road, then fled on foot but was later arrested for battery.

5:41 p.m.—A woman left her purse behind on the 1000 block of South Green Valley Road. Someone picked it up, then used her credit card at Cheveron.

5:46 p.m.—Someone reported Pedro Salvador Guzman drivign recklessly through the city. He was pulled over on the 600 block of East Lake Avenue and arrested for DUI and driving without a license.

8:03 p.m.—A 17-year-old boy on probation was caught with marijuana, tobacco, gang clothing and gang paraphernalia at his house on the 200 block of Green Meadow Drive.

8:44 p.m.—Jesus A. Vasquez, 47, crashed his car into a parked vehicle, then kept driving while a witness followed him. He rear-ended a second vehicle before being arrested on the 200 block of Kearney Street for DUI and hit and run.
