Police Blotter: Car Chase Near Fairgrounds

The following arrest information was provided by the California Highway Patrol and the Watsonville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man wanted in Monterey County tried to flee a California Highway Patrol officer who attempted to pull him over north of Watsonville for a seatbelt violation on Wednesday, the CHP reported.

Adrian Ruiz, 29, was driving a red GMC Sonoma pickup near Anderson Drive and College Road around 11 a.m. when the CHP officer noticed his alleged violation. That's when the pursuit started, eventually heading onto Highway 152 and ending near the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, the CHP reported.

Ruiz, who lives in Moss Landing, was wanted in Monterey County for domestic battery, destruction of telephone or electrical lines, driving on a suspended license, burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing narcotics, the CHP reported.

He also was arrested for evading police, driving on a suspended license and with expired registration, and got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.

His passenger, Monica Vasquez, 19, of Castroville got a ticket for possessing drug paraphernalia.

Watsonville Police Log, Wednesday, Jan. 4

5:04 p.m.—An 18-year-old woman tried to cash a fake check at Wells Fargo on the 1500 block of Freedom Boulevard. She left before officers arrived, but police are getting a warrant.

7 p.m.—A 23-year-old woman was cited for a misdemeanor warrant on the 500 block of Lincoln Street.

8:59 p.m.—A vandal smashed the windows of two cars parked on Lighthouse Drive and Vista Verde Circle.

9:52 p.m.—A 33-year-old man was suspected of prowling on the 500 block of Rodriguez Street. He refused to give officers his name and got a ticket for resisting.
