Police Blotter: Car Swiped with Keys in Ignition

Opportunistic car thief jacked unlocked vehicle.

A savvy, or lucky, car thief motored off in a vehicle that was parked in the street with its doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition Sunday afternoon, Watsonville police reported.

The theft happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 100 block of Meadow Terrace when the 25-year-old driver left his vehicle. It was last seen northbound on Anna Street, police said.

1:34 a.m.—A thief siphoned gas from a car parked on the 200 block of Misty Glade Lane.

2:25 a.m.—A laptop was stolen from an unlocked garage on the 100 block of Marchant Street.

Sunday, April 24

11:24 a.m.—Someone threw a rock through an apartment window on the 100 block of Union Street.

11:33 a.m.—A car was keyed on the 300 block of Second Street.

4:52 p.m.—A teenager was arrested for allegedly burglarizing Starlight Elementary School. Police said he had stolen property—electronic equipment—as well as burglary tools, marijuana and a smoking pipe with him.

Saturday, April 23

2:23 a.m.—Jose Reyes, 47, was arrested for public intoxication on the 100 block of Main Street.

2:54 p.m.—Nicholas Orona, 29, who is on probation, allegedly ran from a police officer. He ran into a home at 480 Beck St. and was caught a short time later. Orona was arrested on suspicion of violating his probation and resisting arrest.

3:59 p.m.—A teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of misappropriating stolen property. He was busted on the 200 block of Ford Street.

9:37 p.m.—A gang member on probation was caught with illegal fireworks, police said. Eduodo Cancino, 18, allegedly had fireworks as well as gang-related clothing and writings, both violations of his probation.

10:22 p.m.—Pete Avelar Garcia, 46, was arrested in connection with a trespassing investigation on the 600 block of Walker Street.

11:45 p.m.—Daniel Lopez, 23, and Anthony Martinez, 21, were arrested on suspicion of delaying police when an officer responded to the 100 block of Silver Leaf Drive. Martinez allegedly lied about his name and was violating his probation. Lopez allegedly was on drugs.

Friday, April 22

9:22 a.m.—Jose Garica was arrested for public intoxication on the 200 block of Union Street.

9:27 a.m.—Someone stole a 76-year-old woman's Social Security number to file taxes.

10:02 a.m.—Jessica Hosking, 30, was caught with baggies of methamphetamine and a pipe on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard. She was arrested on suspicion of drug charges and violating her probation.

9:35 p.m.—Gabino Herrera, 20, was arrested for allegedly hanging out with gang members, a violation of his probation. He also reportedly fought officers when they tried to arrest him on the 100 block of Grant Street.

10:04 p.m.—Raymondo Lopez-Magana II, 19, was stopped for jaywalking across South Green Valley Road and allegedly had an illegal switchblade. He was arrested.

11:26 p.m.—A teenager was arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed knife, a violation of his court-ordered probation. Police caught him on the 100 block of Shady Oaks Drive.

11:36 p.m.—Salud Tapia, 51, was arrested on the 100 block of White Street for allegedly violating his probation.
