Police Blotter: Car Torched, Arson Suspected

Also, a 16-year-old was caught with a loaded gun and officers arrested teens near Wednesday evening's gang fight for having drugs and being drunk.

Watsonville Police Log, Thursday, Aug. 2

12:25 a.m.—A vehicle caught fire on the 400 block of Carmel Street and police investigators arson. The fire was reported as "fully involved" and about 10 feet from a house. Passers-by extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived.

8:33 a.m.—A 44-year-old man was arrested for vandalism. He allegedly damaged a mailbox on the 100 block of Brennan Street.

11:07 a.m.—A man was arrested for violating a restraining order on the 800 block of Lincoln Street.

3:56 p.m.—A 50-year-old woman tried to shoplift food from a grocery store on the 1900 block of Main Street.

6 p.m.—A 16-year-old was arrested for having a loaded .380 pistol. He was caught during a car stop on Pennsylvania Drive and Seneca Court. A 17-year-old in the car was arrested for violating the terms of his gang probation.

6:21 p.m.—Burglars stole from a house on the 100 block of Monterey Vista Drive.

6:24 p.m.—Two teenagers were arrested near the scene of a gang fight. One was violating his probation and had alcohol; the other was arrested for having marijuana and cocaine. Also, a 19-year-old who was with was arrested for being drunk in public. The gang brutality happened on the Pajaro River levee near Marchant Street.

11:32 p.m.—A burglar tried to steal electronics from a portable classroom at Cesar Chavez Middle School. The would-be thief unplugged a computer and moved a projector, but fled without taking anything.
