Police Blotter: CHP Chases DUI Driver

Meanwhile, Watsonville police report calm Valentine's Day.

California Highway Patrol officers chased a Santa Cruz man on foot though Seacliff and arrested him on drug and other charges early Sunday, the CHP reported.

The man, 31-year-old Tyerell Dion Newton, was being stopped for speeding in his gold Volkswagen Passat southbound on Highway 1 near State Park Drive in Aptos on Sunday, around 2:30 a.m. However, when he yielded to the CHP, Newton allegedly jumped out and ran toward Seacliff, the CHP reported.

Newton was caught on Center Street and had drugs with him and alcohol in his car, the CHP reported. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine and marijuana, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

Watsonville police log, Monday, Feb. 14

9:30 a.m.—A thief stole credit card information from a 42-year-old man and rang up charges on the card, even though the man still has possession of it.

10:47 a.m.—Items were stolen from an unlocked car parked on the 1800 block of Freedom Boulevard.

11:31 a.m.—Alberto Sealant was arrested on the 100 block of Kingfisher Drive on suspicion of making threats, resisting arrest and violating his parole.

3:05 p.m.—Vandals slashed two tires of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of Union Street.

9:32 p.m.—Pablo Guzman, 48, was arrested on a felony warrant on the 400 block of East Fifth Street.
