Police Blotter: Cops Taze Man Who Threatened to Shoot People

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watsonville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An angry, drunk man found himself at the business end of Taser prongs Sunday evening when he refused to obey a police officer's commands and was shocked with a stun gun, Watsonville police reported.

Trouble started for Othon Grajeda Solis, 34, when he got into an arguemnt on East Lake Avenue and threatened to come back with a gun, according to WPD Sgt. Saul Gonzalez.

Solis left, then returned without a weapon. As he exited a second time, he said he would come back and shoot people, according to police.

The cops caught up to him on the 1200 block of East Lake Avenue and pulled over his vehicle in a high-risk, "guns-drawn" car stop, according to police.

Solis wasn't complying with officers and one shocked him with a Taser, Gonzalez said. No gun was found, but Solis was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Watsonville Police Log, Sunday, Aug. 14

12:22 a.m.—Efren Zamora, 25, was ticketed for a warrant on the 600 block of Madison Street. Also there, parolee Carlos Rafael Lopez, 33, was arrested on a parole hold after police spotted him drinking alcohol in public.

2:06 a.m.—Police got a report of gang members possibly waiting to fight on the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. One man, Antonio Velasquez, 22, was arrested for trying to flee from officers.

6:17 a.m.—A vandal damaged a car on the 400 block of East Beach Street overnight.

3:43 p.m.—A 19-year-old man said Romualdo Hernandez-Celis assaulted him on the 100 block of Riverside Drive. The attacker fled before police arrived.

5:50 p.m.—Nolberto Froylan, a known gang member, was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia and violating his probation. He was picked up after police did a probation compliance check on the 200 block of Silver Leaf Drive.

6:24 p.m.—Juan Jose Gomez, 27, went to his ex-girlfriend's house and fought with her new boyfriend. He sped away in his car when the cops came, crashed into a street sign and tree on the 100 block of Elm Street, then ran. Gomez wasn't caught.

Saturday, Aug. 13

1:44 a.m.—A parolee and a woman with a record for burglary were searched in the parking lot of the Main Street 7-Eleven. Police reportedly found burglary tools and stolen items, including credit cards, in the vehicle. Daniel Mendoza, a 28-year-old on parole for domestic violence, and Delilah Yasin, 32, who has priors for burglary, were both arrested.

2 a.m.—A man walked into Watsonville Community Hospital after getting in a fight. He was injured, but refused to cooperate with police.

6:21 p.m.-Sergio Salas, 33, was pulled over on the 100 block of Jefferson Street and arrested because he had been drinking alcohol, a violation of his probation.

8:15 p.m.—A teenage boy was ticketed for making threats.

Friday, Aug. 12

Police picked up several wanted people:

  • Daniel Richard Garcia at 12:07 a.m. on the 100 block of West Beach Street.
  • Robert Keller at 1:28 a.m. on the 200 block of Pacifica Boulevard.
  • Eustacio Gonzalez at 1:03 p.m. on the 1200 block of Freedom Boulevard.

1:33 p.m.—A smash-and-grab car burglar stole a Nintendo Wii from the trunk of a car on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

1:45 p.m.—Cynthea Eckhart, 44, passed a bad check.

4:48 p.m.—Marcus Kelley, 39, was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

6:39 p.m.—Jesus Castaneda, 26, was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia and a warrant during a probation search on the 100 block of Landis Avenue.

7:05 p.m.—Eduardo Oviedo Alamillo, 20, got a ticket for being a minor in possession of alcohol on the 800 block of Freedom Boulevard.

10:46 p.m.—Angel Mendoza and Elizabeth Escamilla were arrested for drug and fraud crimes on the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Escamilla had made fake checks, according to police, and the two also had narcotics and drug paraphernalia, including needles.

11:30 p.m.—A car stop for a vehicle code violation netted a suspected drug dealer on East Beach and Beck streets. Police found methamphetamine packaged to sell, methadone pills and other drug paraphernalia in the car. Leopoldo Sandoval, 35, and Ninfa Julia Falcon, 31, were arrested.

Sheriff's Office Log, Friday, Aug. 12

2 a.m.—A home on the 400 block of Lakeview Drive was burglarized. Thieves stole a TV.

Sunday, Aug. 14

9:30 p.m.—Burglars tried to break into a house on the 100 block of Delaney Street but failed. A man was home at the time.
