Police Blotter: Drunken Driver Goes Wrong Way, Crashes

Also, an observant witness followed another DUI driver until police arrived; he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.28.

A drunken, wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash Sunday night on Green Valley Road, Watsonville police reported.

The intoxicated driver turned into oncoming traffic at Stewart Avenue around 9:25 p.m. A police officer was in the area at the time and saw the incident unfold, according to Watsonville police.

The drunken driver and his passenger were trapped in their car and had to be cut out by firefighters. His passenger was flown to an out-of-county trauma center for treatment, and the driver was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital, police reported. He was later arrested for DUI causing injury.

The person in the car that was hit by the drunken driver was not hurt, police said.

12:15 p.m.—A thief swiped a purse from a shopping cart on the 1400 block of Main Street.

8:22 p.m.—A 42-year-old man suspected of being drunk got into his car at La Princesa Market. A concerned citizen saw him and followed his car while calling 911. Officers pulled over his car and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. His blood-alcohol level was 0.28, more than three times the legal limit.

8:35 p.m.—A man was arrested for a parole hold on Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

9:33 p.m.—A hosue was burglarized on the 100 block of Franich Drive.
