Police Blotter: Burglary Suspects Caught in Stolen Car

The following arrest information was provided by the Watsonville Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man and woman arrested last week in Capitola were allegedly linked to burglaries there and in Watsonville, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Marcos Ortiz-Patricio, 21, of Watsonville and Julia Carrillo Solorio, 25, of Gonzalez were stopped by CHP officers on 41st Avenue near Capitola Drive on Dec. 27 because they were allegedly driving a red Nissan pickup reported stolen a week prior in Watsonville, according to the CHP.

The pair had stolen property with them that was tied to four break-ins, the CHP reported. They also allegedly had drug paraphernalia and syringes.

Ortiz-Patricio was driving the truck. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while addicted to narcotics, a rarely used California Vehicle Code that prohibits addicts going through a treatment program from driving a vehicle.

"This is a section we use when arresting someone who is driving while addicted, but is not currently 'high.' The withdrawal symptoms of certain drugs are just as dangerous as the impairing effects of the high," CHP officer Sarah Jackson explained.

Ortiz-Patricio was also booked into County Jail for allegedly driving with a suspended license, auto theft, as well as possessing a stolen vehicle, stolen property, drug paraphernalia, burglary tools and hypodermic needles.

Carrillo-Solorio allegedly gave officers a fake name. She was jailed for vehicle theft, providing false information to an officer, and possessing a stolen vehicle, stolen property, drug paraphernalia, burglary tools and hypodermic needles.
