Police Blotter: Fast Food Restaurant Robbed at Gunpoint

Watsonville was pretty calm during the long weekend, until Monday night's holdup.

Two robbers held up the . on Monday night.

The "take over-style robbery”  happened while the restaurant was still open, and two men wearing masks and armed with handguns stole an undisclosed amount of cash, police Sgt. Saul Gonzalez said.

The men fled, and officers were unable to find them. No one inside the restaurant was injured, police reported.

On Tuesday, Gonzalez said investigators were trying to tie the holdup to other recent robberies in the city.

“We’re trying to see the comparisons to our bank robberies to see if there’s any connections, but there’s not a whole lot of information," Gonzalez said.

A Wells Fargo branch was robbed at gunpoint in mid-December. Armed robbers hit the Rabobank on Main Street on Jan. 7. No arrests have been made in those heists.

Watsonville Police Log, Friday, Jan. 14

1:40 p.m.—The police gang unit served a drug search warrant at Jose Marquez's home at 261-A E. Beach St. and found 2 ounces of methamphetamine. Marquez was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and having drugs near school grounds. He was taken to jail.

3:52 p.m.—A car burglar smashed the passenger side window on a pickup parked in the 100 block of Nielson Street and stole a backpack.

6:23 p.m.—Kenneth Osborn, 64, was cited for having a baggie of marijuana the .

7:41 p.m.—Police arrested a 16-year-old for being drunk in public and petty theft on the 1400 block of Main Street.

7:50 p.m.—A 29-year-old man was assaulted by a group of people, but he told police he has no memory of the incident, which may have happened on Quinn Avenue. The man suffered a broke nose and some bruises on his face.

8:22 p.m.—A burglar kicked in the front door of a home on the 100 block of Jefferson Street , but nothing was missing.

Saturday, Jan. 15

9:54 a.m.—Bionculars were stolen from an RV on the 700 block of Delta Way. Police found a fingerprint at the scene.

1:44 p.m.—Two teens were contacted after allegedly trying to pick a fight with a man near Second and Pine streets. Because the man wasn't around, the two were released. Police later learned that one of the teens gave officers a fake name.

6:19 p.m.—Emanuel Rodriguez, 32, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, evading an officer, transporting marijuana and resisting arrest at Freedom Boulevard and Crestview Drive. Three passengers in his car—Manuel Miguel Perez, 33, Armando Ramirez Espinoza, 21, and Vicente Vega, 20— also were arrested.

7:40 p.m.—Gabriel Gonzalez, 42, was arrested on the 100 block of Ford Street for public intoxication.

10:09 p.m.—Michael Lee Misener, 44, was arrested on the 1600 block of West Beach Street for a felony warrant and booked into County Jail.

10:17 p.m.—Nicholas Eric Vargas, 28, and Ernesto Luis Vargas, 33, got into a fight and both were arrested on the 100 block of Blanca Lane.

Sunday, Jan. 15

8:38 a.m.—A vandal used a straight-edged tool to scratch the paint on a car parked on the 100 block of Gardner Avenue. The vandalism happened overnight.

11:45 a.m.—A trespasser on the 100 block of Sakata Lane was arrested. Angel Madrigal Contreras, 24, was wanted in Monterey County for a felony charge, so he was booked into jail there.

3:49 p.m.—Joseline Jocobo-Gutierrez, 25, was arrested at the police station on suspicion of shoplifiting from . Store security allegedly caught her stealing from the store five times.

4:32 p.m.—Mohinder Singh, 71, was found unable to care for himself on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard. He was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, as well as violating his probation and a misdemeanor warrant. He was taken to jail.

9:22 p.m.—A Sony PlayStation was stolen from a home on the 400 block of Beck Street. The thief got in through an unlocked window.

Monday, Jan. 17

6 a.m.—A vandal shattered a window at a business on the 200 block of Westgate Drive. Police searched the building, but no one was inside.

8:11 a.m.—Vandals scrawled two tags on the front windows and door of a business on the 200 block of Pine Street. The vandalism, done with a pen, was repeated 14 times.

7:18 p.m.—Leticia Marie Rendon-Prucha, 28, was arrested on the 600 block of California Street for a misdemeanor warrant and taken to County Jail.

9:41 p.m.—Police investigating the armed robbery of Carl's Jr. stopped Oscar Curry, 49, in the parking lot of on the 100 block of Green Valley Road. Curry allegedly had a methamphetamine pipe and a 9-inch dagger with him but was not connected to the robbery. However, he was on parole and was arrested because of the pipe and knife.

10:47 p.m.—Esperanza Serrato, 38, was arrested for a warrant at West Riverside Drive and Walker Street.

11:26 p.m.—Two men stole a 12-pack each of Budwiser beer from a convenience store on the 2100 block of Freedom Boulevard. They ran west but were not caught.
