Police Blotter: Fatal Crash Probe Continues

A 21-year-old man died in the Friday the 13th wreck in North Monterey County.

Investigators are trying to track down how a 19-year-old Aptos woman allegedly got alcohol before a fatal car crash in North Monterey County on Friday night, KSBW Action News 8 reported Tuesday morning.

Erica Duran was behind the wheel of her Honda sedan—packed with six passengers ages 17-24 from Salinas, Watsonville and Aptos—when she tried to pass another vehicle by illegally crossing over double yellow lines and speeding on San Miguel Canyon Road near Prunedale, the TV station reported.

The car collided with a tree on a blind corner, according to the Salinas Californian.

Joshua W. Perez of Salinas died in the crash, the San Jose Mercury News reported. The other passengers and Duran were injured.

Several agencies are investigating the crash, including where Duran got alcohol.

9:07 p.m.—A 34-year-old man was stopped while driving on Oregon and Martinelli streets. He had a suspended drivers license and had 15 tablets of prescription drugs with him.

Sheriff's Office, Thursday, Jan. 12

A man was arrested for driving without a license and for two warrants on South Green Valley Road.

Wednesday Jan. 11

2 p.m.—An apartment on Stewart Avenue was burglarized.

Also, two people made separate reports during the weekend about illegal activity on their bank accounts. In one instance, someone withdrew $403 from a woman's bank account using an ATM in Monterey.
