Police Blotter: Fire Set at School Playground

Also, a man got violent during a parking dispute and a 52-year-old woman was busted for breaking into a car.

An arsonist set fire in the playground at  a day before students returned from summer break, but no significant damage occurred, according to Watsonville police.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. Sunday in the back of the playground on the 1100 block of Menasco Drive. It didn't spread to any playground structures, or the school building itself, police said.

Officers searched the area for the arsonist, but no arrests were made.

Classes began Monday morning at the K-5 school.

9:31 a.m.—The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office in Bend, OR, reported that a Watsonville resident had used a stolen Social Security Number. The man told police he made up the number to get a job. Officers are getting a warrant.

10:09 a.m.—A man was arrested for warrants on the 100 block of Ford Street.

2:21 p.m.—A car was burglarized on the 100 block of Crescent Drive.

5:26 p.m.—A 26-year-old man shoved his brother during a fight on the 100 block of Fuchsia Drive. He was arrested for battery.

6:44 p.m.—A 31-year-old woman violated a court order by being nearly an hour later to exchange her child.

7:31 p.m.—A vandal slashed a tire on a silver 2002 Suzuki XL-7 on the 100 block of Lawrence Avenue.

8:57 p.m.—A red 2010 Dodge Charger parked on the 500 block of Main Street was keyed with a gang tag.

9:26 p.m.—A woman was arrested for a probation violation on the 100 block of Grant Avenue.

Saturday, Aug. 18

2:15 a.m.—A man was arrested for a probation violation on the 300 block of Pennsylvania Drive.

2:49 a.m.—A 27-year-old man was arrested on two warrants on Tuttle and East Lake avenues.

5:32 a.m.—A parolee was arrested for a violation on the 100 block of Eaton Avenue.

9:12 a.m.—A 56-year-old man was arrested on a warrant on the 400 block of East Beach Street.

1:58 p.m.—A vandal damaged a car parked on the 100 block of Jefferson Street.

5:39 p.m.—A 19-year-old man was ticketed for a probation violation on the 700 block of Vista Montana Drive.

Friday, Aug. 17

1:58 a.m.—A woman was ticketed for a warrant on the 100 block of Jeanette Way. Five hours later, the 52-year-old was arrested for vehicle burglary on the 700 block of Main Street.

3:32 p.m.—A 43-year-old man was hit with a beer bottle while in Ramsay Park. An hour later, he was beat up and robbed nearby on the 100 block of Harkins Slough Road.  

3:44 p.m.—A vehicle was vandalized on the 100 block of Garden Avenue causing more than $600 damage.

7:16 p.m.—A 35-year-old man was arrested after throwing a large metal object through a car window during a parking dispute on the 1000 block of South Green Valley Road.

9:01 p.m.—A woman was arrested of having heroin and for warrants on Salinas Road near Jonathan Street.

9:38 p.m.—A man, age 22, was arrested for DUI on Baron Court and Beck Street. His blood-alcohol level was 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit.

10:36 p.m.—A teenager was arrested for punching holes in the door of his mother's closet on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

Thursday, Aug. 16

1:40 a.m.—A man was arrested for a warrant on the 1100 block of East Lake Avenue.

11:28 a.m.—A 22-year-old man tried to hide a knife when police contacted him on Lincoln and Prospect streets. He was arrested.

4:28 p.m.—A 33-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting at Kmart.

9:51 p.m.—An 18-year-old was arrested for having a small amount of cocaine and being high on drugs on Wagner Avenue and Vista Montana Drive.

11:46 p.m.—A man was arrested for warrants. He was contacted behind Safeway on Freedom Boulevard.
