Police Blotter: Knife-Point Heists on Halloween

The following arrest information was provided by the Watsonville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two knife-point robberies happened within 90 minutes of one another on Halloween, Watsonville police reported.

Just before 9 p.m., a group of six males, some armed with knives, confronted two men walking in an alley between Joyce Park and Marcela Drive. The gang demanded property from the pair, police reported. The gang got what they wanted, then ran south on Joyce Park toward Bridge.

Then, at 9:30 p.m., a man walked up to a 30-year-old man's car and demanded the man's cell phone and wallet, then fled, according to police.

No arrests were made. It wasn't clear if the robberies were related.

12:20 a.m.—Matthew Colon, 45, was arrested after he allegedly brandished a knife at a security officer on the 1900 block of Main Street.

Monday, Oct. 31

10:21 a.m.—A man exposed himself on Kearny and Rodriguez streets.

11:36 a.m.—Whitney Marie Robinson, 23, was stopped on the 1800 block of Main Street for driving on a suspended license.

Sunday, Oct. 30

8:50 p.m.—Gerardo Tapia was stopped for a bike violation and was arrested for allegedly being high on drugs and having a glass pipe on West Fifth and Walker streets.

Saturday, Oct. 29

12:15 a.m.—Gerardo Fuentes, 24, was arrested for being drunk in public on the 100 block of Brennan Street. He was walking home from a bar.

2:13 a.m.—Police investigated a fraud case on the 1000 block of East Lake Avenue.

11:05 a.m.—A burglar broke into a Marigold Avenue home through the garage and stole items, including car keys. The burglar then stole the vehicle, but returned it later.

5:13 p.m.—Joshua Zepeda was arrested for allegedly hanging out with another gang member,  a violation of his probation. He was arrested on the 100 block of Prospect Avenue.

9:54 p.m.—Humberto Osorio Ortega, 29, was pulled over for speeding and losing control of his vehicle on East Lake and Hill avenues. Police said he also had a suspended driver's license and no insurance. His car was towed.

10:25 p.m.—Raul Ramirez Hernandez Jr. was arrested during an investigation of DUI, gang participation, a fight and vandalism on the 600 block of East Lake Avenue.

11:06 p.m.—Ivan Ortiz, 19, fled a fight on Riverside and Coolidge avenues but was caught by police after a short foot chase. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana, battery, being drunk in public, vandalism and resisting arrest.

Friday, Oct. 28

12:17 a.m.—Christopher Olivares, 21, and two teens were arrested for being drunk in public on the 100 block of Richardson Avenue. They had fled from cops in the Starbucks parking lot. The underage kids were sent home to their parents; Olivares went to jail.

7:56 a.m.—Gabriel Chavez allegedly violated his probation terms by possessing drug paraphernalia on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

9:58 a.m.—Enrique Avalos, 21, was arrested for a warrant on the 200 block of Union Street.

10:44 a.m.—Enrique Ortiz, 28, was arrested for a warrant for possessing an engine with its identification numbers removed. He was picked up on the 600 block of Main Street.

12:38 p.m.—A 15-year-old was arrested for allegedly having an 8-inch knife, a shotgun shell and a lighter on the 200 block of East Beach Street. He was sent home with a relative.

1:52 p.m.—Jorge Villanueva, 22, was caught on hiding drugs during a police contact. He allegedly hid 3.1 grams of meth and 3.5 grams of marijuana on the 400 block of Rodriguez Street.

1:59 p.m.—A house was burglarized on the 100 block of Lincoln Street sometime Friday.

5:09 p.m.—A car was vandalized on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

6:31 p.m.—Nancy Nieves Rodriguez, 50, was arrested for allegedly stealing items from a store on the 1000 block of Main Street. She has nine prior convictions for theft, police said. Rodriguez went to jail.

9:25 p.m.—Paroled burglar Joshua Gilchrist, 32, was pulled over for a vehicle code violation on Martinelli Street west of Brewington Avenue. He was wearing an ankle monitor and allegedly had a screwdriver in his pants pocket. He was arrested.

9:49 p.m.—April Bell, 51, was stopped for violating a city ordinance on Green Meadow and Green Valley roads. She is on probation and allegedly had two meth pipes, marijuana and crystal meth in her bag. She was arrested.

10:05 p.m.—Teenagers were drinking inside a foreclosed home on the 100 block of Riverside Drive. Fabio Lopez, 18, was arrested for having a concealed weapon.
