Police Blotter: Man Beaten With Bats, Stabbed

The following arrest information was provided by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office and the Watsonville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Watsonville man was stabbed repeatedly and beaten with baseball bats by a group of suspects shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday in Pajaro, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Callers reported seeing a fight involving five suspects on Porter Road near Salinas Road shortly before 2 a.m. Witnesses said baseball bats were being used to beat the victim.

Deputies arriving on the scene found Watsonville resident Julio Armendariz with multiple stab wounds to his head, arms and waist.

Armendariz, whose injuries are considered life threatening, has refused to cooperate with investigators, officials said. He was taken to a trauma center for treatment.

7:59 a.m.—Overnight, someone stole copper piping from a home on the 100 block of Landis Avenue.

9:17 a.m.—A vandal keyed a car parked on the 100 block of Compton Terrace.

2:07 p.m.—The windows on three cars were shattered. The vandalism happened on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard.

4:59 p.m.—A 29-year-old man was detained for making purchases at La Princesa Market with a check that had insufficient funds. He also had a warrant, and was cited.

Saturday, Jan. 14

1:06 p.m.—A wanted parolee was arrested on Union Street and Riverside Drive. The 32-year-old man was taken to jail.

6:14 p.m.—A drunk 58-year-old man was arrested in front of the Grocery Outlet on the 1000 block of Main Street.

8:32 p.m.—A 20-year-old man was arrested for resisting a police officer and a probation violation on the 700 block of Freedom Boulevard.

Friday, Jan. 13

12:14 a.m.—A 40-year-old man was arrested in River Park for possessing drug paraphernalia, giving false ID to an officer and three warrants.

1:09 a.m.—A 25-year-old man was arrested with stolen property and for a probation violation on the 300 block of Marchant Street.

2:27 p.m.—A man on probation was caught with syringe's during a probation search on the 100 block of Sixth Street. The 33-year-old man was jailed.

3:52 p.m.—A 22-year-old man ran from cops when he was pulled over on the 100 block of Pennsylvania Drive. He was caught after a short foot chase and arrested for resisting arrest and driving without a license.

8:19 p.m.—A 36-year-old man was pulled over for a traffic violation and was arrested for having cocaine and marijuana. He was stopped on the 100 block of Jared Way.

10:57 p.m.—A 30-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication during a traffic stop on Freedom Boulevard at Compton Terrace.

11:05 p.m.—A 19-year-old man riding his skateboard in the middle of Main Street near Auto Center Drive was arrested for being drunk in public.
