Police Blotter: Man Loses Two Fingers in DUI Crash

Also, police broke up a brawl on Friday night and a car was shot at last week.

A man lost two fingers when he was involved in a drunken driving crash late Saturday, Watsonville police reported.

The crash happened on the 1100 block of Lincoln Street around 10:50 p.m.

A 21-year-old man lost two fingers, police said. He was taken to a trauma center over the hill for treatment.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk and causing great bodily injury, police said. 

Details of how the collision occurred were not released.

In an unrelated case Friday night, two young men were arrested for being drunk in public when officers responded to a large fight Friday night, Watsonville police reported.

The brawl happened around 8:45 p.m. on the 1700 block of Freedom Boulevard. People scattered when the cops arrived, but officers detained two men, ages 23 and 24. Both were arrested for being drunk. One was also jailed for having cocaine on him, police reported. 

Saturday, July 20
Vandalism: A vehicle was scratched on the 200 block of Ford Street. It happened overnight. 

Warrant Arrest: A 38-year-old man was arrested on the 200 block of East Lake Street around 9:30 a.m.

Theft: Someone stole a delivery item off a porch on the 200 block of Sunnyhills Drive. The crime was reported around 3:15 p.m.

Warrant Arrest: A teenage girl was arrested on the 100 block West Lake Avenue around 4:40 p.m.

Warrant Arrest: A 27-year-old man was arrested on the 100 block of Carnation Drive around 5:40 p.m.

Shoplifting: A thief was ticketed on the 1700 block of Freedom Boulevard around 5:45 p.m.

Warrant Arrest: A 30-year-old man was pulled over for driving without a license and was arrested on warrants. It happened on the 400 block of Holohan Road around 7:50 p.m.

Shoplifting: A 27-year-old man was arrested for stealing from Kmart around 7:20 p.m. He had run from store security but police caught him after a brief food chase.

Warrant Arrest: A man was arrested on the 100 block of Railroad Avenue about 9:50 p.m.

Friday, July 19
DUI: A drunken driver and his intoxicated passenger, both in their mid-20s, were arrested around 1:20 p.m. on the 200 block of California Street.

Vandalism: Graffiti was found on the back door of a business on the 100 block of Blanaca Lane just before noon. It happened sometime in the past five days.

Vandalism: A car was scratched on the 200 block of Michelle Court overnight. 

Theft: Someone stole a portion of the Green Valley Mobile Home Park fence on on the northeast corner of the complex, on 500 South Green Valley Road. The theft was reported at 5:40 p.m.

Knife Possession: A 20-year-old man was ticketed for carrying a switchblade on the 1700 block of Freedom Boulevard around 7 p.m.

Drunk in Public: A man was arrested on the 200 block of Rodriguez Street around 9 p.m.

Thursday, July 18

Drug Possession: A man and woman, ages 55 and 40, were arrested for having drugs, drug paraphernalia, burglary tools and stolen property on Riverside Drive east of Union Street around 3 a.m. 

Warrant Arrest: A 35-year-old man was jailed after a traffic stop on Pennsylvania and Longview drives revealed an outstanding warrant for his arrest around 7:30 a.m.

Car Break-in: A thief smashed a door window on a car and stole a laptop bag on the 1100 block of South Green Valley Road overnight.

Shoplifting: A 49-year-old habitual thief was arrested for allegedly stealing from a store on the 1000 block of South Green Valley Road around 11 a.m.

Probation Violation: A 29-year-old man was arrested on Palm Avenue and Brennan Street around 11:10 a.m.

Drugs: A 52-year-old woman was arrested for having drug paraphernalia on  Marchant Street at the river levee around 3:20 p.m.

Theft: A Trek bike was stolen from the bed of a pickup parked on Sudden Street at Palm Avenue about 6 p.m.

Assault: A 44-year-old man told officers he was assaulted and his vehicle was vandalized while he was using the recycling station on East Lake Avenue. The alleged attack happened around 7 p.m. near Beck Street. 

Probation Violation: A 31-year-old man was arrested for having drug paraphernalia and violation his probation during a compliance check at his home in the Wall Street In around 8:40 p.m.

Drunk in Public: A 50-year-old woman was arrested for public intoxication on Rodriguez and West Fifth streets around 11 p.m.

Wednesday, July 17
Shooting: A woman reported hearing several gunshots Tuesday night on the 100 block of Sudden Street. In the morning she found bullet holes in her vehicle and shell casings on the ground. 

DUI: A woman was passed out in the driver's seat of her vehicle, which was parked on the sidewalk on South Green Valley Road around 3:15 a.m. 

Car Burglary: Two thefts were reported on the 100 block of Laurel Street and the 100 block of West Fifth Street overnight.
