Police Blotter: Rash of Car Break-Ins

Also, a portable generator was stolen from the bed of a truck.

At least seven car break-ins were reported in Watsonville since Saturday, police reported.

Door locks were jimmied or "punched out" on locked vehicles, many on Hill Avenue.

  • 100 and 300 blocks of Hill Avenue overnight Saturday.
  • 700 block of Hill Avenue sometime during the weekend. 
  • 100 block of Vista Verde court on Saturday or Sunday.
  • 100 block of Blackburn Street on Sunday.
  • 100 block of Franich Drive overnight Saturday.
  • 4400 blcokof Dunlap Crossing Street on Monday. Unlike the other break-ins, this car was not locked.

Also, a portable generator was snatched out of the bed of a truck parked on the 100 block of Atkinson Lane on Friday night or Saturday morning. The generator is worth more than $950.

Police generally recommend not leaving valuables in vehicles and, when possible, to park cars in secure areas, such as a garage, to deter break-ins.

Watsonville Police Log, Monday, Sept. 24

7:18 a.m.—A vandal keyed a car on the 100 block of Grant Avenue overnight.

8:19 a.m.—A man ran from police on the 200 block of Holm Road. He was caught and arrested.

1:14 p.m.—A man was arrested for a warrant on South Green Valley Road and Hope Drive.

3:41 p.m.—A man was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest on the 100 block of West Beach Street. He was also high on drugs.

5:16 p.m.—A man's set of keys were stolen from inside his garage, on the 100 block of Peace Drive. A woman hanging around in the neighborhood was questioned, but denied stealing the keys.

5:33 p.m.—A 38-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting from Kmart and a separate felony warrant.

7:56 p.m.—A man was arrested for loitering on private property on the 900 block of Freedom Boulevard. He was also violating his probation.

Sunday, Sept. 23

12:36 p.m.—A 17-year-old boy punched his stepfather in the nose during an argument at the house on the block of Carey Avenue.

4:02 p.m.—A laptop was stolen from an unsecured room in a home on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

4:39 p.m.—A man was arrested for being drunk in public after he made a scene at the Metro station on Rodriguez Street.

10:21 p.m.—Two people were booked on drug-related charges following a probation search on the 100 block of West Beach Street.

11:30 p.m.—A man stopped for riding his bike in the dark without lights was arrested for drug charges on Walker Street and Riverside Drive.

Saturday, Sept. 22

7:06 p.m.—A man was arrested for trespassing and warrant on the 100 block of Jefferson Street.

9:08 p.m.—A house was broken into on the 100 block of California Street.

10:22 p.m.—A motorist stopped for expired registration on the 1900 block of Freedom Boulevard was arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

11:41 p.m.—Officers made an arrest for resisting police on the 100 block of East Front Street.
