Police Blotter: Sneaky Car Theft

The following arrest information was provided by the Watsonville Police Department and the Sheriff's Office. It does not indicate a conviction.

A woman told she lent her vehicle to a man more than two months ago and he never returned it, according to the police department.

Now it's considered stolen and police are investigating a crafty crime: the borrower reportedly sent a fake release of liability form with the .

Police are investigating the case as embezzlement. The woman, who lives on Feliz Drive, said she lent out her car on July 31; she notified police about the possible theft around 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. Watsonville Patch is not identifying the man who allegedly took the car, pending the police investigation.

Watsonville Police Log, Thursday, Oct. 6

12:10 a.m.—Two men stole beer from the Quick Stop on Freedom Boulevard at Green Valley Road. They were caught on tape; no arrests have been made.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

10:43 a.m.—Car windows were smashed as a vehicle was burglarized on the 200 block of East Lake Avenue. The theft happened sometime after 1 a.m.

11:36 a.m.—Aaron Amezcua, 25, was arrested for a warrant on the 1400 block of Main Street.

1:19 p.m.—A stolen vehicle was found on the 1000 block of South Green Valley Road. Police got fingerprints and will try to identify the thief.

6:12 p.m.—Brandon Rhoades, 24, was arrested during a probation search on the 100 block of Holly Drive for having a sling shot and gang participation.

6:37 p.m.—Adrian Puga, 29, was arrested for a parole violation on Holly Drive and Ross Avenue. A woman with him, Veronica Lopez, 34, allegedly had a glass smoking pipe and got a ticket.

7:23 p.m.—Daniel Rivero, 21, was involved in a rollover crash on Lincoln and East Fifth streets. Police said he was drunk and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

8:35 p.m.—A teenager arranged to buy a TV from someone, but took the television and never paid for it. Police are investigating the theft.

11:32 p.m.—Matthew Rossel, 39, was arrested on a warrant after he refused to leave Target on Main Street.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

10:29 a.m.—A Walgreens customer reported she accidentally left a bag of prescription medication at the drug store on Monday night and another customer took the drugs.

3:29 p.m.—Neighbors on the 100 block of Sunnyhills Drive got into a dispute about a UPS package that one man was expecting but the other man may have signed for and stolen.

3:54 p.m.—Children sawa burglar leaving a house on the 100 block of Hold Road. Items were stolen; no arrests have been made.

5 p.m.—Diane Gallegos was arrested for being drunk in public when police were called to a family fight on the 100 block of Hillside Avenue. Two hours later, police got a report from a "mandatory reporter" that Gallegos also had threatened to kill someone.

5:58 p.m.—Police arrested Noe Martinez on behalf of the Probation Department after Martinez failed a urine test.

6 p.m.—An Apple iPad was stolen from the new AT&T store on Main Street. The thief might have been a teenager, according to police.
