Police Blotter: Two Drive-bys, No Injuries

Detectives say the shootings appear unrelated.

Twice last weekend, gunmen opened fire on unoccupied, parked cars in separate parts of town, reported.

No one was hurt in either shooting and, so far, detectives have few leads on the drive-bys except to say they appear unconnected.

"We don't believe the two incidents are related," Lt. David McCartney said, explaining that there are no ties between the victims or the neighborhoods where the bullets flew.

The first shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. Friday on the 400 block of Second Street. A vehicle drove down the street and opened fire with a .22-caliber gun, striking a parked car five times and shattering some of its windows, McCartney said.

Neighbors reported the shooting.

Then around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, someone opened fire on an unoccupied parked vehicle on Roosevelt Street, McCartney said. Witnesses reported hearing four or five shots and seeing a truck leave the neighborhood, but it's unclear if the pickup was involved in the shooting.

The Second Street neighborhood has a history of gang issues, but Roosevelt Street has not had problems with violence in the past, McCartney said.
