Police Blotter: Wanted Men Arrested with Loaded Gun

Gang officer spotted the guys driving down the street and pulled them over.

A police officer on foot spotted two wanted men in a car in Watsonville on Thursday afternoon, chased the car down, recovered a gun and arrested the two men, police reported.

Gang unit officer Fernando Lopez stopped the car after a short chase. The passenger, Robert Avila, 23, had outstanding warrants, and the driver, Shon Montalvo Jr., was wanted in Monterey County, according to police. 

Officers also found a loaded gun in the car. The gun had been lost or stolen in San Francisco, police said.

The men were arrested around 5 p.m. on suspicion of probation violations, being felons in possession of a gun and gang enhancements, in addition to their warrants. Motalvo also was booked for allegdly evading arrest.

In an unrelated incident Tuesday just before lunch, police arrested a 16-year-old suspected of attacking a man and stealing his jacket near Ohlone Parkway and Harkins Slough Road.

The man said five people jumped out of a red van, beat him and took his jacket around 11:40 a.m. A police officer spotted a similar van about 20 minutes later on East Lake and Brewington avenues, but the van fled with the officer tried to pull it over, police said.

Police chased the van at high speeds to Lincoln and Palm, where the van crashed into another car. The occupants fled, but one 16-year-old boy was caught nearby and arrested. He was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property and fleeing police.

The man got his jacket back, police said.
