Second Shooting Suspect Arrested With Loaded Gun

A Watsonville man suspected of being involved in the gang-motivated shooting of another man in a grocery store parking lot last month was arrested Monday night, Watsonville police reported.

Alex Rugerio, 19, was picked up as he left a house on West Beach Street in Watsonville. He and a woman were passengers in a car driven by a man, police said. 

Rugerio and Edgar Ibarra, 20, are suspected of shooting a 29-year-old man in the leg on Sudden Street near East Lake Avenue on the evening of May 3. Ibarra was arrested the week after the shooting, according to police. 

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-motivated.

Rugerio reportedly had a loaded revolver and methamphetamine when he was arrested on Monday, police said. He and Ibarra have both been jailed on suspicion of attempted murder and gang participation. Rugerio was also booked on drug charges, police said.
