Serial 9-1-1 Caller Arrested Again

The Watsonville man has a penchant for chatting with emergency dispatchers.

Watsonville's serial 9-1-1 caller dialed again, and was again arrested by police.

Watsonville police picked Nathan Jarvie, 33, on Monday after he allegedly misused the 9-1-1 system. It's the third time in a week he's been arrested for that offense.

Jarvie was first arrested Aug. 13 for reportedly dialing emergency dispatchers 111 times in 16 days, according to KSBW. He was arrested again the following day for the same charge.

The Rodriguez Street resident apparently called often to chat with dispatchers and ask odd questions, the TV station reported.

He did not need police, fire or medical services. In fact, not one of the calls was to report an emergency, according to KION.

Misuse of 9-1-1 falls under California Penal Code 653X, a misdemeanor punishable with a $1,000 fine.

Santa Cruz Regional 9-1-1, the emergency dispatching service for much of the county, shared this message on its Facebook page

We encourage our citizens to call 9-1-1 to report emergencies that require a fire, police or ambulance response!

Please remember 9-1-1 is here to serve everyone, so for that reason penal code 653x is enforced when absolutely necessary.
