Serial Groper Returns, Detectives Suspect

Check out this video to help identify the assailant.

A man groped a 21-year-old woman who as she walked into a Watsonville grocery earlier this month, and detectives suspect he may be the same assailant who groped more than 30 girls and women over the past two years.

The man was exiting La Princesa Market, 1260 Main St., around 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 when he reportedly groped the woman. He ran away was not located when officers canvassed the area. During the course of the investigation, officers got surveillance footage of the man exiting the store.

The Watsonville Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in this case and therefore is releasing video footage of the suspect (the audio in the media file is not related this investigation).

The suspect is similar in description to the 30-plus cases reported to Watsonville police in 2010 and 2011.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Investigations Bureau at 768-3350 or the Crime Tipline at 768-3544.

Really nice shot of the guy, now let's hope someone recognizes him and does the right thing by reporting him to WPD. Kind of a dumba** to get caught on the store's surveillance camera - lol.

Are you sure that wasn't just one of Watsonville's 'running unopposed' councilmembers on a meet-and-greet campaign swing through their district? Perhaps just a little unclear on the concept of getting the pulse of the public?

Groping is considered sexual battery and we have had involves 30-plus victims just in the past 2 years alone. Mr. Bankhead wants to politicize it by insinuating that councilmembers are groping as part of their meet-and-greet. Wow. This is insulting to these victims who were humilated and will suffer emotional distress from being sexually assaulted. Your comments were inappropriate and distracts attention from this serious crime that affects millions of women in our society. In fact, one in three women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime. The next victim could be your sister, daughter, niece, or granddaughter. I hope not. But i do hope that you can show more intelligence by putting your politics aside just for one moment in the spirit of compassion.

Your comment is in the poorest of taste. Not funny in any way.

@Steve: I agree this is a serious issue but I thought your attempt at humor was hella funny. I'm sick, I know...
