Sheriff: No Motive in Teen Stabbing

A 17-year-old Watsonville boy remains hospitalized following the weekend attack at an Aptos beach.

A few details came out Monday about .

He was at the beach, below Seascape Resort in Aptos, with his 15-year-old girlfriend and their 19-year-old friend. Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, the teen was stabbed several times in the abdomen and legs, according to the Sheriff's Office.

"They were just down there and were attacked by another group," Carney said, relaying the story the three teenagers have told investigators.

Carney said the 19-year-old man involved is "somewhat uncooperative" with the investigation. Monday, detectives on the case decided to take a second look at things.

"They're trying to figure out exactly what happened," Carney said.

There isn't much information for detectives to go on and few witnesses to speak with. Investigators have not said what may have spurred the attack.

"They're combing over what little evidence they have," Carney said, adding that it's not "an easily solve-able case."

The stabbing victim was flown to an out-of-county trauma center for treatment. He underwent surgery and is listed in serious but stable condition, Carney said Monday.
