Sheriff's Office Reports Relatively Calm Holiday

Only eight people were arrested during the festivities Monday.

The sheriff’s office ramped up enforcement across Santa Cruz County for the Fourth of July holiday, but even though people packed area beaches to enjoy the sunshine, Monday's crowds weren't as crazy as years' past.

In one bizarre incident, a motorist in Boulder Creek tried to run down a man who had been arguing with people about setting off illegal fireworks.

Here's the data for the deputies' work from 8 a.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday.
